About us

About us

Our wonderful inn

in Wimborne, Dorest

The lovely old English pub, THE BARLEY MOW is managed by  Naili, whose experience in the pub trade exceeds twenty years.

Oliver Cromwell passed this way with his army on their trek to knock seven bells out of Corfe Castle some time ago. The nearby Gods Blessing Lane is said to be where his troops were blessed before the battle.

Who knows, some of his lads may have popped into THE BARLEY MOW for a pub lunch and a pint or two before the fracas?
The management are not sure on this point – they weren’t here then !

In later times part of the pub was the little village school. Hence the cartoon in the saloon referring to the Old School “Thai”.

The pub grounds are extensive with large secluded decking and grassed areas. Ideal safe places for children and families to enjoy the Summer sunshine whilst dining.

Special events will be arranged during the “good weather” months.
Music, steam engines, vhog roasts etc. all in the attractive surrounding grounds.

Ample parking is available.

Our Exclusive Country Wedding Venue

Our Exclusive Country Wedding Venue

just or you!

The 16th century Barley Mow Inn is delightfully English and for centuries it has commanded a prime yet secluded location in the picturesque Dorset countryside.  It is within easy reach of the charming and historic market town of Wimborne Minster, which is only two miles away.

The Barley Mow is a cherished traditional thatched inn and has long enjoyed an inspiring and romantic setting. It is no coincidence that celebrated author Evelyn Waugh chose to write his novel Decline and Fall here, having met with his wife by our roaring log fire.

Our exclusive country wedding field is in the heart of the countryside enjoying a private and peaceful setting which is perfect for your unique day. We recognise that everyone is different, and no two people’s dream country weddings are the same. Therefore, the versatility of our delightful location will be of great benefit to you.

This enchanting and spacious site in our grounds is an immaculately kept paddock and lawn allowing numerous options for the siting of your personal style of marquee and leaving you free to arrange the unforgettable wedding day of your dreams. Whether your plans are intimate or lavish your only constraint will be the limit of your imagination.

The location is wonderfully atmospheric whatever the season. Whether you wish a backdrop of the new growth of the trees in spring, the wild flowers and harvesting of summer or the golden leaves of early autumn the location is enchanting. You may even spot fallow deer grazing or swallows and house martins swooping overhead.

Our beautiful venue is truly exclusive as we can only offer it on a very limited number of days each year. We would therefore encourage you to come and see us as soon as possible and we can discuss opportunities.

We would urge you to look at our list of personally selected partners who will be pleased to help you transform and tailor our site for you, whilst organising the fine detail of your treasured and unforgettable day

The Barley Mow itself is a perfect location for wedding gatherings for family and friends both before and after your event. We hope you will enjoy your experience so much you will return to see us for your anniversaries.
